Running water is abundant and downed trees are everywhere you look, but our lower trails have finally emerged from the dirty snow pack. Many of us have eeked out training runs all spring regardless. Others are just getting ready to go. Let’s get this summer started with Sunday Social runs!
After three seasons of the Trail Teaser series, we are trying a new format. Sunday Socials are planned to be at the same place and same time each week, with a run followed by socializing, bring-your-own picnic, maybe even a dip in Donner Lake.
Where:: Donner Memorial State Park, free dirt parking on Donner Pass Road just west of the main park entrance. Enter the park on the dirt path where the large sign says “EAST BEACH DAY USE AREA.” We will meet at the dam, which is just 200 yards straight on the trail into the park.
When:: Sundays, running at 3:30pm followed by BYO picnic and socializing. Families encouraged to meet us and join the crew around 4:30pm. Dogs welcome – must be on-leash in the park except for at dog beach.
What:: Runs will break into groups by desired distance and pace level. The park has many dirt trail routes, including Cold Stream trails that we’ll explore as the summer progresses.
First Sunday Social is May 21, 2017! We’ll take a break for Memorial Day Weekend (run with us at the picnic on Monday – click here for picnic info) and resume on Sunday, June 4.
Sunday Socials are FREE and open to the public. Click here to learn more about club membership in support of our mission to inform, inspire, and connect mountain runners in Truckee-Tahoe.
